Confusion At PDP Headquarters As Police Lock Out Ali Modu Sheriff

There was a pandemonium at the National secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja early this morning as the controversial former Chairman of the party , Ali Modu Sherif was barred from gaining access into the secretariat by the armed policemen stationed at the building.

Modu stormed the Headquarters of the party as early as 7.00am on Monday with a retinue of supporters with the view to assuming office as the chairman despite the inauguration of the Ahmed Markafi led caretaker committee.  Trouble started when his convoy was prevented from driving into the premises of the secretariat by the police.

The standoff situation forced Sheriff to come down from his jeep and address a few journalists who were around that he was shocked that he was prevented from entering his office as chairperson of the party. He pointed out that he relied on the court judgement which was delivered in Lagos that affirmed him as the authentic chairman of the party. He revealed that there was nothing like "Markafi Caretaker Committee," and he would not recognise such committee.

A visibly angry Sheriff, therefore, asked his driver to drive him to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase at Force Headquarters to direct his men to vacate the premises of the secretariat.

As at the time of filling this report, his convoy and hundreds of placards carrying supporters were still at the front of the building waiting for him to meet with the Inspector General of Police.
