Christian students in Osun state are wearing church garments and robes to school, following a court ruling on the use of hijab in schools.
On June 3, Jide Falola, presiding judge at the Osun state high court, had ruled that Muslim students in the state could wear hijab to primary and secondary schools.
In response to this ruling, Christian students in the state were seen spotting church robes and garment to school on Tuesday.
In a statement by its chairman, Elisha Ogundiya, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), had warned that Christian students would start wearing garments if the state allowed hijab in schools.
“Where the Osun state government is inclined to implementing the judgment, Christian students in all public schools founded by Christians with the toil and sweat of our forefathers in the faith will have no choice but to start wearing Christian garments and vestments as part of their school uniform,” CAN said.
The association added that this would be “for the propagation of our own faith given the Justice Saka Oyejide Falola declared right of Muslim female students to do same as what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander as well. Adherents of other faiths who have their choice to make in this matter can wear theirs as well.”
Pupils at Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo, Osun state, promptly took up CAN’s instructions, as shown in these viral pictures.
