JAMB relocates Cross River office to Akwa Ibom

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Cross River State has relocated its office to Akwa Ibom State.

The relocation of the office, according to

findings, was as a result of the directive from the registrar, Prof Is’haq Oloyede.

Prof Oloyede who visited the office at the premises of the Cross River Transport Regulatory Agency (CTRA), popularly referred to as ‘100 Marian’ was disappointed at the office as greater parts of the premises were taken over by heap of impounded vehicles.


“The usage of CTRA to park impounded vehicles may have irked the registrar as they was no space for workers and others including students and parents to have access to the offices” a worker who pleaded for anonymity said..

“This was the reason when the registrar arrived Calabar to grace the WAEC 56th Annual General Meeting and award ceremony and stopped over only to be embarrassed at the sight and state of our office.

“These are essentially the reasons, he gave the order that since the state government has not responded to their appeals for a conducive office we should move the Calabar office immediately to Akwa Ibom State” he stated.


“This morning students groups have come here with placards, pleading that the Cross River JAMB office should not move. We understand they also stormed the governor’s office for same reason,'” a security office said.

When our correspondent called on the commissioner of education, Godwin Ettah, he did not pick his calls.

However, the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade while addressing WAEC on Thursday at its AGM, had assured that his government will continue to give full supports and cooperation to educational agencies in the state.

Consequently, security operatives were seen at the JAMB office in Calabar to avert vandals taking over the properties following the protest embarked upon by parents and students over the relocation.

The armed operatives from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as officials of JAMB said the office was no longer conducive for administrative operations because of the activities of hoodlums and state agency called Cross River Transport Regulatory Agency (CTRA), popularly called ‘100 Marian.’
