Aregbesola, reportedly made the declaration on Saturday, July 6, following his successful handing over to Gboyega Oyetola, the successor he wished.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Aregbesola said this at a victory celebration organised in his honour by a group within the state All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group identified as ‘APC En-route Rauf’ held the event at the Nelson Mandela freedom park in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state.
Having successfully handed over to a progressive governor of my wish and I am sure that after his tenure, he will hand over to a successor of his choice too. I will relax as a ‘godfather’ and enjoy myself without any stress,” Aregbesola reportedly said in Yoruba language.
Speaking at the event, Governor Gboyega Oyetola said he remains committed to the development of the state. He also assured the people of the state that they would not regret their confidence they have in his ability to lead the state.
“Now that the final judgement has been pronounced, it is time to consolidate on our strength and make Osun another Lagos state governed by only one party,” the governor said. On his part, the speaker of the Osun state House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, appealed to the supporters of the APC in the state to help bring back aggrieved members of the party.
