My professional brother and notable journo, Akanbi - Olawale Olaleye - has put my know-how on the complexity of the workings in the media to evaluation due to my question on the Media appointments just made by our President.
I would rather overlook Akanbi's remark as misconception of the main issue; & also to save time.
It is however important to note that the primary operation of news gathering & information dissemination which involves editor, deputy editor & other personnel in the chain value is totally different from a spin-doctor or a presidential spokesperson who is responsible for the management of the President's public image & the President's communication machinery. Though they can all be regarded as Media men, they perform distinctive media functions; & a presidential spokesman's activity is clearly different from what obtains in the newsroom!
So I still maintain that it is confusing & unnecessary for President Buhari to have an SA - Media & Publicity (Femi Adesina) & also SSA - Media & Publicity (Garba Shehu) especially when the government is trying to save cost now.
And it is even more confusing when you read what another notable journalist-friend, Jafaar Jafaar, who's from the North said on the President's appointments, "Shehu Garba was the president of Nigeria Guild of Editors 15 years ago, while Femi Adesina is the current guild president. Shehu was editor-in-chief 25 years ago, while Femi is currently serving as one. The two CAN'T go together. It is like asking General Gusau to serve under Col. Sambo Dasuki as NSA",
