American music star, Wyclef Jean who we all thought was a citizen of Haiti as claimed by him, has now confirmed he is a full blooded Nigerian, according to DNA test result. He made the statement on his new video titled “Baba.”
The song is a collaboration with Kofi Black and has gotten the attention of Nigerians such that it is fast becoming a major topic of discussion. As much as we know, Wyclef Jean is an American rapper from Haiti. His profile has it thus:
“Wyclef Jean is a Haitian rapper, musician and actor. At the age of nine, Jean emigrated to the United States with his family. He first achieved fame as a member of the New Jersey hip hop group the Fugees. Jean has won three Grammy Awards for his musical work.” However, in this new song, the American rapper claims to be a Nigerian citizen.
There have been arguments by Nigerians as to which of the tribes he is more likely to hail from if truly he is Nigerian. Due to the love that folks from the different tribes have for the rapper, they are claiming he’s more likely from their tribe. Now, over to you. Do you think he is Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba?
