Making good the promise he had earlier made to all the workers as regards offset of all the debts, gratuities and all other allowances meant for the workforce in Ogun state before leaving in 2019, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has ordered immediate payment of all categories of debts owing workers, pensioners and former political office holders.
The governor gave the order following the receipt of N17.3 billion being the last tranche of Paris Club Refund from the Federal Government on Wednesday and had since ordered the State Ministry of Finance to start the payment of the backlog of workers’ co-operative deductions spanning about six years, pensioners’ gratuities, severance and allowance political appointees as well as implantation of social services.
The governor, who was represented at a press conference held in Abeokuta on Thursday by the duo of Taiwo Adeoluwa and Adewale Oshinowo, Secretary to the State Government and Commissioner for Finance respectively, said, “as we have always done, we are here to update all our stakeholders, particularly our civil and public servants, that Mr President has graciously released the last tranche of Paris Club Refund of N17.3 billion.
“The Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA, has directed that the sum of N17.3 billion received be expended on the immediate payment of the backlog of Co-operative deductions, gratuity, severance, furniture allowance of its workforce and other social services.
“This is in line with the commitment of the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration to the welfare of workers. The administration, as you all know, is worker-friendly. This informed the decision to increase the salaries of workers in 2012 which doubled our monthly wage bill. This is a testament to the value this government places on its workforce that it pays the highest salaries in the entire federation.”
