Popular Yoruba film-maker, Seun Egbegbe, released from prison


The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kirikiri, on Tuesday, released Nollywood filmmaker and producer, Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, who was on Tuesday, October 11, 2017 sentenced to seven years imprisonment ‘with hard labour’ for fraud.


Islanders exclusively gathered that Seun Egbegbe was indeed released yesterday at 8pm and was seen at a hotel in Ikeja owned by the ex-husband of a popular Nollywood actress.


Kareem, who had been in detention for 57 months since his arrest in 2017, was released to go home having exceeded the imprisonment time in detention.


Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo sentenced Kareem on Tuesday, October 11 after convicting him of one of the 44-count charge filed against him by the police.


The trial began on May 10, 2017, and on Tuesday, October 11, Justice Oguntoyinbo found Egbegbe guilty of count 19 of the 44-count charge filed against him and set him free.
