How Tiwa Savage Dared All To Cradle Snatch Wizkid

When male stars dare to romance younger women, it will barely raise an eyebrow these days. But when a woman celeb of a certain age dares to snug a younger and fresh-faced bloke at a gig, she’s certain to come in for some flak. Especially if she is a 39-year-old sexy diva like Tiwa Savage, known to be hot, fresh and single with no known partner. So, it's unsurprisingly, tongues started wagging when Tiwa started copping-off with the Starboy, Wizkid, at every opportunity they had to be together.

At 29, Wizkid is 10 years younger than Tiwa, who is not long split from her former husband manager, TeeBillz in a very controversial manner. The two superstars have dominated the grapevine all through year 2019. They have grown closer after the release of their second collaboration Ma Lo — the first being Bad. With the song as easily one of the best songs of the year, both Tiwa and Wizkid have been at the top of their games. Their performance of the song at every major show they headlined has further elicit the on-stage and off-stage romance tale.

Sometime in May, a video surfaced online of the duo being all over each other. That time, what many saw was Wizkid slapped Tiwa’s bum playfully and buggered off just before she could retaliate. Of course, there wasn’t much in the video in itself to suggest anything many of their fans didn’t already know. It’s been common knowledge for a bit that the pair is likely an item.

Although there hasn’t been any confirmation or denial from any of them, they have not particularly been doing anything to cease the rumours either as they junketed the world together like real lovebirds, crossing different continents performing and tantalising fans with various salacious videos and pictures. Thus, millions of their fans appeared in for their long drama, forcing them to wonder: could the Isale-Eko, Lagos-born multiple award winning Tiwa really be another cradle snatcher in the wing?

In an interview with seasoned broadcaster, Olisa Adibua of Lagos urban radio station, Beat FM, couple of weeks ago, Tiwa, who is signed to the Universal Music Group, opened up a bit about her much-talked relationship with Wizkid.

The sultry singer told Olisa that although she is very much single, there is a certain “friends with benefits” kind of relationship between them. When pressed to reveal if the relationship was such that involved having casual sex but with no serious emotions attached, Tiwa admitted that their relationship was mutual and beneficial in a way that they do shows and music together.

“We are friends, very good friends. There are few benefits; we do shows together, we do music together, we make money together,” she said.

To some industry buffs, most of Tiwa and Wizkid optics as mere showbiz but they agree that there is an obvious strong, amazing chemistry between the two. More so, relationship wise, the two are somewhat free to share mutual love, and that’s what they have been doing if series of recent happenstances are to be considered.

While in Paris, France for that country's leg of Wizkid's Starboy Fest in October, they set tongues wagging with their erotic performance as the pair unabashedly shared a deep kiss on stage while Wizkid grabbed Tiwa’s bum. The duo was filmed performing their spicy collaboration, ‘Ma Lo’ with Wizkid ushered in Tiwa, hugging her before seemingly kissing while the lights were dim.

On Friday December 20, they were trolled when another video surfaced online showing Tiwa being all over Wizkid. In the video, the songstress surprised Wizkid on stage as she grabbed and hugged him from the back while he was performing on stage at his own concert, Starboy Fest, part of the weeklong Flytime Festival, on Thursday night.

It is a known fact that Wizkid, a globally adored music superstar signed on to RCA Records/Sony Music International, has had a whirlwind past with nearly a dozen popular women including Tania Omotayo and Jada Pollock, the British artist manager who also had a baby for the Afropop star.

While there are no evidences of any form of real intimacy, there’s no gainsaying that Wizkid is also attracted to older opposite sex. He has been caught hanging out with "big aunties" including International supermodel, Naomi Campbell. The British model had took the Nigerian singer as her date to the 2018 GQ Men of the Year awards, which held early September 2018 in London.

The 49-year-old model arrived at the venue of the event, holding hands with the 29-year-old singer, who was dressed in a black suit. That was not the first time Naomi and Wizkid were making an appearance together. In May 2018 during the singer's concert at the 02 Arena, Naomi ushered in Wizkid. The following month in Paris, the pair walked the runway together for international fashion brand, Dolce and Gabbana, as well as at Milan's Men Fashion Week in Italy.

And recently at his widely anticipated and successful Starboy Fest in Lagos, the singer played host to two other ‘big aunties’— Omotola Jalade and Genevieve Nnaji. The top actresses especially Genevieve was caught on camera at the concert with Wizkid wrapping his hand around the actress’s neck and whispering into the respected screen diva’s ear.

Of all these, his relationship with Tiwa, who has self-styled herself, 'African Bad Gyal', remains the flagship. Whether it’s showbiz or not, the superstars seem to have ignore the reaction as Tiwa has continued with her ‘romance’ with Wizkid despite all the initial uproar and moral policing they got.

Tiwa loosened up a bit about the dating saga when she took to the stage at her just concluded Everything Savage concert on Monday December 23 at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, to speak on her relationship with Wizkid.

She has spoken about the age difference between herself and her 'young lover' saying her relationship with the Starboy is no man’s business and even though she is older than him, the older the berry, the sweeter the juice.

Good for Tiwa and Wizkid.

Chuks Nwanne, Entertainment and lifestyle Editor of Nigeria's The Guardian, believes one may be tempted to look at the whole issue as a PR stunt, "but then you begin to have this feeling that there's more to it. I personally feel Tiwa needed Wizkid's international network to push her music, after leaving MAVIN; recall that the relationship started at the peak of Wizzy's music career. In all, whatever it is, I believe it's beneficial to both of them".

Sharing almost same sentiment with Nwanne, Jayne Auguoye, an Assistant Editor with Premium Times said: "Everything was just a publicity stunt and image laundering ploy. Tiwa latched in on Wizkid’s fame to ensure that she remained a talking point all year long and it worked. It paid off. That doesn’t rule out the fact that they are very good friends"

But Tosin Ajirire, seasoned journalist and Group Entertainment Editor, The SUN, in a terse reaction said: "So what if they are in a relationship? None of them is married so to say. Wizkid is single, Tiwa is separated. So they are free as a bird."

Joey Akan, in his article for OkayAfrica was a bit strict in his comment: “Tiwa is a single mother of one who exited a marriage to a man that many deem "irresponsible." Wizkid is regarded as the African poster boy for deadbeat fathers, due to trouble with his baby mamas. These two people are considered bad for each other. But they are together, living their life, staying hydrated, and people are pressed.”

But as many watch the direction the two superstars’ relationship is heading to, some have resigned to enjoy the whole drama.
