He is widely known in the South-West states as a great man, a warrior. His name became popular for his role during Ife/Modakeke war back then, for his leadership and his brave participation.
Today, he’s gone past that. He is now a politician and a businessman, whose attention is devoted to solving human problems and the protection of people’s rights. Even the rich and powerful come to him for advice.
He has many friends, who are Muslims, but he’s a Christian. He’s a friend to the popular Alfa Saheed Shitu, who is always criticising his fellow clerics who don’t follow the proper Islamic rites. Chief Sunday Igboho has been called severally to talk to his friend about his conduct towards other Islamic clerics.
A FEW WEEKS BACK, CHIEF SUNDAY IGBOHO WAS LIVE ON FACEBOOK TO ADDRESS SOME PERTINENT ISSUES ABOUT HIS LIFE, THOSE ALFAS CALLING HIM AND MANY OTHER ISSUES ABOUT LIFE.
He gave reasons why he thinks there are no witches and wizards.
He started with a friend: Saheed Shitu happened to be one of my Muslim friends. And there’s been a threat over his life, concerning what he does. Saheed Shitu used to have a programme on Facebook where he calls out Islamic clerics, especially those who don’t follow Quranic doctrines. And ever since then, there’s been a threat to his life.
Sunday Igboho explains why he doesn’t believe there are witches and wizards. “Some clerics have been calling me to speak to Saheed to stop talking about witches and wizards. But I know who I am. I don’t deceive myself. I still carry out incisions on myself and other things related. That was how I was raised.
But recently, they called me that he (Saheed) as cursing witches that I should talk him down and I wondered what is the matter. What’s Alfas concern with someone cursing witches? I wondered! Leave Alfa Saheed and witches to battle it out, I said. Why are the Alfas against that? And that’s what infuriated me and I told those Alfas when they were threatening Alfa Saheed that witches and wizards would kill him. But to my amazement, those people (witches and wizards) are yet to kill him. And that’s why I am still baffled about their power.
When the threat was much and Alfa Saheed wasn’t in Nigeria, I told him where he was that please don’t come back to Nigeria, these Alfas would kill you. He said it’s a lie. And I said if truly you are God-sent, come back home if you won’t be killed. He came back home and since then, nothing has happened to him. These people are yet to kill him! That’s why I know that when you are with God, you won’t be killed by anyone. And I can swear with all I have that, I have never shared any diabolical thing with Alfa Saheed.
I also want to put it out there that, if these Alfas could kill Alfa Saheed within 7 days, I would become a Muslim, but it has to be within a period promised because nobody will live forever.
MY ENCOUNTER WITH A POLICEMAN IN OSOGBO
A policeman disrespected me back then in Osogbo, Osun State. The incident was reported in the newspapers. The said policeman infuriated me and I told him point black that before the next week if you sleep, you will be dreaming of me and even if you close your eyes or you are walking it’s me you’ll see. And if it fails to happen then I’m a bastard. When the day I gave him elapsed, he started seeing my image everywhere. Can you see that? That’s my doing because I have told him what would happen within a specific period.
That’s why I said they should come out boldly and give a specific time when Alfa Saheed will die. He’s been in Ibadan for some time and they have failed to kill him and that’s why I never wanted to believe in their power. There’s no such thing like witches. You can sleep and dream, especially when you don’t sleep early or when you have malaria. If you eat in your dream, it doesn’t really amount to anything. It’s what you think in your mind. I eat in my dream often. Someone you can have sex in the dream, it doesn’t mean anything because such a person could have a urge as a result of a long time break from sex. Those ones are ‘film tricks’.
What I know is that we have people in this world who have diabolical power, but those who are with God will not be affected. I’m a Christian. My name is Sunday.
SO, I WANT ALFA SAHEED TO CONTINUE WITH CALLING OUT THOSE CLERICS. WHY SHOULD ALFA BE DEFENDING WITCHES? THAT’S WHAT A PASTOR WILL NEVER DO! EVEN IF HE HAS A HERBALIST SOMEWHERE, HE WOULD NEVER BOAST ABOUT IT.
I DON’T BELONG TO ANY OCCULTIC GROUP
If you believe in your God, nothing would happen to you. I don’t believe someone will kill me. I don’t belong to any occultic group. Anyone who thinks we belong to the same occultic group should come out. I don’t have any occultic group whatsoever. I don’t do appeasement to any devil. What’s mine with the devil? Is it mad? When I am not stupid. The reason we have people still carrying out sacrifice is this. My father told me that in those days, when people walk from one town to another and people would be hungry and we would then tell them then to make the sacrifice and put on the road, so that people travelling, who are hungry could have something to eat and also give us their blessings. It means nothing. The moment you belong to any occultic group, you will be restricted to do and say certain things.
When my father was alive, they told him that I was causing trouble that I have a lot of powerful charms, but my father replied them that Sunday only has 1 percent of what he had.
I DON’T HAVE ANY COVENANT WITH OYO EX-GOV. LADOJA
I don’t have any covenant with anyone. And anyone who thinks we have a covenant should come out to say it. I don’t do it. People who don’t know me have said I have a covenant with Ladoja. I just like my ‘father’! He also likes me. We don’t have anything together like a covenant. He is hearing if I’m lying about it. I just like him because he’s good to me. If he promises me, he would fulfil it. Even when people say he’s stingy and all that, he is not to me. He gives me my own cut and I’m loyal to him. We are not on covenant at all. Ladoja can’t even enter into covenant with you. He doesn’t have the time.
MY ENCOUNTER WITH AN ALFA WHO WANTED TO KILL ME IN OSUN
I have an Alfa in Osun called Alfa Abduljelile. He’s an Alfa. He called me one day that I should be careful of one Alfa. And that the Alfa doesn’t see the sky; he never raised his eyes to the firmament. And he said he’s fear-some and had power. He said some people (politicians) had reported me to him. They said you always disturb them during campaigns. So, they said he would kill me and asked them to find him the teeth of a dead person 201. And I wondered why someone would want to kill me with that. I asked for his house and he described his house. This topic trended in Osogbo then. I called some of my boys that there’s an Alfa, who had been paid to kill me, should we go there?
We went there early in the evening and we met him while praying. We asked him to quickly drop his ‘tesbir’ and face us. When he asked who I was and I told him it’s me, Sunday Igboho. He was trembling when I told him my name and I asked him if it’s true he didn’t look at sky. I also asked him the day he started his prayer he was given to kill me. I told him I give him 7 days to carry out his prayer on me, and if after that 7 days, I don’t die, I would pour acid on his body and I ordered him out. I told him to look in the sky, which he did and he went back inside. Around 8 am the following day, he was already at my gate begging and we settled it.
WHAT MY FATHER TOLD ME ABOUT SHEIK AJANI MUHYDEEN BELLO
My father told me to respect Ajani Muhydeen Bello. He told me about him that he is a great cleric. He’s a true man of God. My father said the man did something he witnessed, that made him to know that he’s a true man of God. There was a time he came to Igboho to commission a mosque. God didn’t create us the same way and we must not compare ourselves with others. When he came to commission the Mosque, people (alfas) who own the mosque had invited various people including one of our brothers, who was the head of Masqueraders in Igboho to the event. When ‘Baba’ (Sheik Ajani Bello) came they introduced the people on the head table and also mentioned the head of the masqueraders as a guest on the head table. ‘Baba’ didn’t say anything at that point.
When he started his sermon, he lambasted the people of Igboho. He said we are mad! Are you people insane? How could you say you want to commission a Mosque and invited the head of the masqueraders in Igboho. He said the masquerader would burn from here to heaven. This man (head of the masqueraders, left in anger and people now went to meet with Alfa Bello Ajani to tone down his voice that the man was strong and all that. But he said the only way his power could subdue his own was only if he added another power to what God had given him. But if truly his power was from God, the head of masqueraders won’t return there again! Lol and behold, this brother had gone to fortify himself and he was about crossing the road when a vehicle hit him. He is still there in Igboho. He still there, but cannot walk till today. And that’s how I believe that man is of God. I love him a lot.
MY GROUSE WITH ALFA WHO ABUSED LATE AYINDE BARRISTER
This is my problem with some of you. There is one Alfa, who was abusing Ayinde Barrister. And Barrister was a Muslim. This particular Alfa didn’t abuse those who are still alive, he went on to abuse someone who is late. And I hate it when someone does that. If I see any Alfa who says he won’t follow God’s way, that he wants to face me and fight me, I will boldly tell him the day he would die within 7 days. But those who are with God can’t be conquered. Because those who are with God can’t be shaken. If I die tomorrow, it’s not from any witch. Anyone who wants to kill me should kill me within 7 days and make it public. I used to fortify a lot.
When I used to do a lot of powerful charms. I had to throw away some of those things. When I used to have Jinn, I can walk from here to Iwo road and I won’t wear anything! Those jinns used to control me. They could say I shouldn’t wear clothing, but only singlet. I used to have a statue that talks like a human being. I talk to it and it replies me. This is not a film trick. I can take my bicycle then and say I’m going to Sokoto. I used to go to Modakeke from Igboho by bicycle. And no one can waylay me. I would have my two hands and waist fortified. I’m a big herbalist! But my first wife is a Christian. She doesn’t want to hear anything else but Jesus. She took away some of those things. My second wife also is a Muslim. She prays from time to time.
WHAT I ENCOUNTERED DURING IFE AND MODAKEKE WAR
When I was in the war front between Ife and Modakeke, there’s a place called Akarabata in Modakeke. There’s a place called AP. There was a mad man at that place. He was there with a big calabash on his head. The people of Modakeke said he was coming to dump a sacrifice in their town and the whole of Modakeke people started shooting at him, but no bullet could get to him. Someone now sent for me. I got there by bicycle because I used to ride a bicycle then. So, when I got there, I shot at him, but none of my bullets penetrated. So, I said this one has been fortified and I told them not to shoot him again. I went near to capture him. When I got him, I realised he was a mad man! When we open all his belongings, they were all rags. And that made me fear God more because I realised that, it’s only God’s protection we all enjoy not that we are fortified. It’s nothing in the eye of God. We searched him all through that day, he didn’t have anything on him. It was just God’s protection. What I have today is not me.
